I Took Jerusalem and Transformed it in to a Business
Producer Sharon Schaveet: owner of Biblical Productions "I took Jerusalem and transformed it into a business" by Tali Heruti-Sover, Ha’aretz, September 9, 2008
Sharon Schaveet believes that rocks are one of Israel’s great resources." People don’t understand the potential hidden in our history", she says, "nor that the exportation of architecture can be a major financial sector. It is actually a broad entrepreneurial base that remains, for the time being, unexploited." Just as it should be. Schaveet, a proud resident of Jerusalem and an enthusiastic initiator of projects, already established one prospering venture, not surprisingly named Biblical productions, for international film projects, and is planning yet another – a portal titled "I Love Jerusalem".
She has already registered ILJ as a trademark and invested 100,000 NIS of her own personal funds; she has no doubt that within a couple of months, the website will be seen by everybody interested in visiting Jerusalem, as well as in purchasing a wealth of products with the new logo. "At this point I’m looking for strategic partners, and I’m certain that this venture will make me very wealthy", she says.
The fact that Jerusalem is loaded with virtual international information (the municipal website, or Nir Barkat’s Go Jerusalem) doesn’t bother her. "With all due respect to Nir Barkat, the content I bring is entirely different. There’s not a rock in Jerusalem that I don’t know and this fact is reflected in my work. The website in question will be interactive, and will contain the experience and information I’ve accumulated in the last 15 years, through both international work and the web".
Schaveet, now 43 and recently divorced, has one child and spent her childhood between air-force bases. Her father, who was a pilot and a well-known commander in the force, is now a businessman. At one point, her family spent some time in the USA on a mission, and during that time she became familiar with the local language and culture – assets that would subsequently serve her well. She served on the air-force operations staff during her army service and, after her discharge, studied International Relations in the Hebrew University but wanted to work in a production company. "I did everything, from coffee girl to research assistant. I took anything I could get." She spent three years working as an employee and when she felt she’d learned enough, she opened her own company. "I never liked bosses", she says, "I have initiative in my blood. It’s difficult and wonderful all at once."
Schaveet was aware of the market when she started her career. In 1993 there were already quite a number of production companies doing what she did – documentary and international co-productions. "There’s always been an amazing documentary industry in Israel", she says, "but I’m not afraid of competition. I’ve learned that where there’s competition – there’s money."
Her distinctiveness is geographic – "The entire industry is concentrated in Tel Aviv and I thought that Jerusalem has a lot to offer. The international industry is interested in the capitol in particular. I realized that this niche was neglected, and decided to specialize in it. I transformed Jerusalem into a vocation." She also did a strategic about-turn and went on from production to providing logistic services for international production companies. "I realized that I hold a treasure in my hands", she says. "I know production processes but I’m also familiar with any imaginable location, all the authorities who provide licensing, all the hotels, photographers, work teams…why not transform all that into a small company that provides services to big companies? International TV networks and independent production companies that come to Israel to film documentaries need excellent production logistics partners. If they have a positive experience, they’ll come back."
“My clients are my priority”
How does a self-employed woman market herself in this world? She sets up a website in English that describes her as a One Stop Shop: Biblical Productions provides for all your needs in Israel. She invested six full months in research for the project, learned how to set up a website, what content to put up, and also how to successfully promote it. "It was innovative at the time", she says, "Competitors hadn’t yet identified the Internet potential and I was alone. The site served me marvelously. I made sure it had exhaustive quality content, it was like announcing to surfers: I am a professional and you are in good hands". Now all she had to do was wait for her first customer.
"Americans only work with letters of recommendation, and I needed someone to break the ice". Redemption appeared in the form of a small Los Angeles firm. "I was ready to work for free, to pay them for the privilege", she recounts, "I was so excited! I gave it all my heart".
The rest, as they say, is history. One thing led to another, her name was passed on and requests started coming in; clients such as Discovery and the USA History Channel became satisfied customers. The fact that she had spent time in the States established her business approach. "I always aim to stay within the budget as this is extremely important to the client and to me", she says, “but sometimes changes in the schedule can have an impact.” “But I respect my clients enormously”, Schaveet adds, “and I always try to work things out the best and most affordable way for their production in Israel. And you need to be professional to the end. Aside from the production work, I make an effort to introduce them to Jerusalem’s culinary highlights and beautiful corners".
Looking to the distant future, when she won’t be able to rush about between locations, she is working on additional developments, such as the large film archive she owns. Documentary shorts on archeology that she produced are available to all buyers. A large firm recently sought to buy her out. "It’s flattering", she admits, "but it’s not what I want right now. What good would that be?"
Schaveet’s feverish mind is already at work in a new direction – the Grand Jerusalem Tourism portal. The commercial potential, she believes, is immense, but her nightmare is a sudden Intifada. "My business ventures require peace and quiet", she says. "There should only not be any wars".

TF2 – Random Damage (Boneyard Productions) – HD
http://www.themovievault.net/?video=1805
This was a real pleasure to watch. I can really see TF2 movies starting to progress, some like this standing up with the good CSS movies. The movie as a whole was very solid. The fragscene was fantastic showing some very good editing and frags. One thing I’d like to point out is the amazing quality. The only letdown was the frequently heard soundtracks to this movie. However you really have to put that aside and just enjoy a great TF2 movie.

Billion Dollar Animation Industry
Billion Dollar Animation Industry
The Second Golden Age of Animation is creating enormous revenues from both box office gross to billions of dollars in sales generated by all manner of kids’ products spinning off from Intellectual Properties aimed at the kiddy market, products that range from the bizarre (Spongebob) to the sublime (Harry Potter).
When was the First Golden Age of Animation? This was a period in American animation history beginning in 1928 that began with the introduction of sound cartoons. It continued into the early 1960s when the introduction of this new medium of television animation drew audiences away from cinemas. It was during these years that an impressive number of Animation Properties came into being; such characters as Tom and Jerry, Superman, Woody Woodpecker, Felix the Cat as well as a huge range of Disney characters.
Walt Disney’s first films; Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Bambi came into being during this era.
What then is the Second Golden Age of Animation? It is happening today. Traditional animation, called cell animation, had been the standard since the 1920’s. Very labor intensive, cell animation was the backbone of the Disney corporation production facility and other companies such as Hanna Barbera. The introduction of computers, while slow to take hold, has completely changed the face of animation production taking animation from two dimensional characters to three dimensional images that are more realistic, easier to manipulate and store and most importantly, are the backbone of the huge video gaming market.
Animated films have far outstripped other genres in home video and DVD sales in the last fifteen years with retail dollars now capturing 32% of total sales, far ahead of second place comedy at 20% according to the Producer To Producer Book, 2nd Edition. In recent years, the licensing and merchandising industry driven by animated television series targeted at children has performed beyond most industry expectations. An excellent case in point, the children’s craze, Pokemon, surpassed accumulated worldwide sales of $10.0 Billion by 2001. Licensing and Merchandising revenues are expected to exceed $100 Billion annually by the year 2010 fueled by such monster hits as Shrek 2 – $881 Million Dollars, Finding Nemo – $865 Million and The Incredibles – $624 Million to name just three.
The target market for children’s television and films is the 50 million plus 4 – 12 year old North American kids whose buying power for toys, games and puzzles was approximately U.S.$13.4 billion per year in the nineties and now in excess of $200 Billion a year. The secondary markets are Europe, Asia and the Pacific region where North American companies have traditionally experienced success with many movie driven properties.
Kids buying power grew 12% over the 90’s and is expected to continue at a double digit growth rate well into the 2000’s. So dramatic was this growth of the Kids market that marketers dubbed the 90’s as the “Decade of the Child”. In response to this phenomenon, more and more toys, clothes, food and entertainment products are being developed for this huge and growing market. The companies involved in producing children’s live and animated productions have now identified this Kid’s market as the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and now team up with toy companies and other manufacturers to exploit this lucrative ancillary market with an unimaginable number of products ranging from downloadable clips for cell phones to video games to social networking websites.
Computer generated films are now the driving force behind the enormous jump in sales of toys, electronic games and the multitude of other products aimed at the kid and tween market. items.
What does the future hold in this new Golden Age of Animation? Producers, manufacturers, distributors and kids are always on the lookout for that next new product. What will that be? As usual, it’s anybody’s guess. Who would have thought that some years ago, adults would be fist fighting over something called Cabbage Patch Dolls? Whatever the next hit is, it will no doubt be spawned from the depths of a computer chip.

Children in Poverty
Children in Poverty
It is possible to capture a glimpse into the future when we look into the faces of children. The environment in which children live is nurturing this world’s future generations. Adults today have to ask themselves the question – is our environment shaping children into become caring, productive, and globally aware citizens?
Are the wealthy countries really doing enough for the children worldwide? Are the governments of the poorer countries doing enough for their children?
Are there better ways to provide support and assistance, particularly for those children with mental and physical disabilities lacking in social safety nets?
There is a huge need for funding support for children in need in impoverished areas of the world, regardless of class, ethnicity, culture, religion or nationality. There are many definitions of special needs. In the “well off” countries of the Western world such as Canada, the United States, England or Australia, a special needs child might be autistic, have physical limitations, suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome, be a victim of sexual abuse, or face other challenges. In the “global south” (otherwise known as the ‘Third World’), such as many parts of Africa, Asia and Latin America, you can add the horrors of malnutrition, homelessness, sexual slavery and sweat shop laboring to these children’s lives. Many of these children are without parents due to civil wars, HIV/AIDS, or were just abandoned by their parents. Most face threats to their basic human rights and live in squalor and fear.
The destiny of all countries and all people on our planet Earth depend on the support, care, development and safety of children. When we attend to the physical, intellectual, and moral growth of our children, we give them the skills, values, opportunities, and confidence necessary to succeed as adults, earners, parents, citizens, and leaders.
There are many children’s foundations in the world today. Some focus on reducing the misery of poverty and hunger. Others address the gaps in education, health care, and shelter that many children face. All are doing their part to provide help and assistance to needy children. Sadly however, there are always more needy children than there are helping hands. There is every reason to believe that many of the needy children in the poorest countries will not live to reach adulthood. Many of these children have physical disabilities, giving them a zero chance of survival in environments suited only for the survival of the fittest.
In Western countries, we take for granted that our governments will provide adequate health services as well as wheelchair ramps, handrails and accessible public transport. For most Westerners, the ready availability of equipment such as crutches and wheelchairs, low entry buses and taxicabs are taken for granted. And any Western government that cuts funding to special needs children do so at their peril.

How effective and legit is quickstar productions?
My band, As Dawn Turns To Dusk, received a message from Danny Bryant from Quickstar productions and I was reading over the contract and such and I was wondering how effective and legitimate they were. My band is very interested in what they say they offer but we were wondering a few things like do they only sell one song? Do they sell a whole album? Do they do a good job of promoting your music? If you know anything about them or have been promoted by them before, please fill me in with as many details as possible.
The only mention online of this company is the corporation that was formerly known as Amway. The company would sign you up but their goal was not to help you, it was to sell you things. Read to see if the contract mentions that you will be charged for video editing or any other services.
You think that you are signing up with someone who will promote you but instead they are selling you things. Be wary.
Does anyone know the name of the font used on Model Productions casting cards?
I am attempting to recreate a Model productions casting card. The site states that the font used must be exactly the same. I have no Idea what the name of the font used on the sample card is. Please help.
If you could show me your sample, I could tell you.
If you don’t have a scanner try taking as clear of a photograph of it as possible. Preferably right in close so the letters are big and clear. Another alternative would to be to find a photo online that looks to be the same and give me the link to that.
Cheers
Is Vertice Productions a SCAM for event planning?
We are looking at engaging in a potential business agreement with a new event planning company in Los Angeles called Vertice Productions.
We did some research and discovered that 2 of the primary people behind Vertice Productions are Maria Cook and James Blackley who have been reported to be involved in running a SCAM called Premiere Productions Inc. Just Google "Premiere Productions Inc scam" and "Maria Cook scam".
Is Vertice productions just another SCAM by Maria Cook and James Blackley?
I don’t know anything about that company, but why would you even consider doing business with any company where the people running it were already reported for running a scam somewhere else? Shouldn’t that be a huge red flag about the type of people you are dealing with? Leopards don’t change their spots
Choosing a Sound Effects Library
When choosing a sound effects library, what do you look for? For people new to the industry, there are a few key questions they need to answer in order to determine what kind of sound effects library that need for their productions. To start off with, while there are a variety of sound effects library publishers, there are a few that one would consider to be the premium sound effects publishers and that have been around for quite some time, two in specific: Sound Ideas and The Hollywood Edge. Both these companies have been in the industry publishing sound effects for a very long time, and focus on high quality sound effects.
Sound Ideas started by creating their first sound effects library– the Series 1000 – on reel to reel tape in 1979. Since then they have created sound effects for the past thirty years, moving from CD formats to hard drive sound effects libraries as of late. Sound Ideas has established themselves as a premium provider of sound effects by constantly innovating and creating exclusive partnerships with providers such as 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros.
The Hollywood Edge is seen by many as the Hollywood sound effects library. The Hollywood Edge contains the Premiere Edition sound effects libraries which contain a great selection of general sound effects for film productions. Many of their sound effects are used in award winning Hollywood movies and productions. Other note worthy mentions for a sound effects library are the BBC Sound Effects Library, Digital Juice Sound FX Library, and the acclaimed Sound Storm Sound Effects Library. Here are a few items to look for when you choose a sound effects library created by a premium publisher.
An important item when choosing a professional sound effects library is that it comes with metadata. Metadata is essentially a description of the sound effect. Today, much of the metadata would be created with software called the Sound miner toolset which allows the sound effects to be easily indexed. When it comes to indexing and searching for sound effects, the metadata is there to make sure you can find the sound effect you are looking for once you need it!
Further, if you want true feature film quality in your production, it’s important that your sound effects library come either in Red Book Audio format (for a CD sound effects library) or WAV files (if you are looking at a hard drive sound effects library). If you are purchasing a sound effects library in a hard drive format, premium sound effects providers will provide their sound effects in WAV format, either in 16 bit or 24 bit WAV files (24 bit preferred if your workstation can handle it). If purchasing a sound effects library in CD format, the Red Book Audio Format is the audio standard format the audio industry adheres to so that all CD players can read the CD (important if you want your sound effects!) Even with a CD in Red Book Audio format, you can still rip the files to WAV format to use in your productions. In summary, make sure your sound effects library publisher has a reputation for creating a high quality sound effects library.
