How do people get dressed so quick for plays and drama productions?
I know when people are in plays they get dressed super quick for a different scen and i want to know HOW!!!
Either double dressing (having one costume over another) or a quick change. Also, there are dressers backstage who have the costumes ready. The fastenings on most costumes are snaps and zippers. A lot of times dresses are in two sections: a bodice and a skirt.
They have dressers backstage who are ready with their changes of clothing.
And the actors and the dressers rehearse.

Costumes which are part of a quick-change are made so they’re easy to get into and out of – buttons won’t be real, they’ll be there for the look and the costume might fasten with velcro or even with magnets, which is becoming more and more common. There are often dressers to help with the changes, and the costumes are always laid out in a way to make it speedy – trousers set so that you can step straight through the legs and into the shoes which will be put underneath them. Shoes have elastic laces so you don’t have to do them up and undo them – but there’s also a lot of practice involved! Most quick-changes are near-impossible the first couple of times you try it, but by the time you’ve been doing the show for a week you just about have time for a cup of tea because it does get easier.

I’ve done it myself, having to change from a full tuxedo to a completely different suit in about 20 seconds playing Warbucks during a production of Annie. It was done with the assistance of the costumer, the stage manager, and 2 technicians, each working with different pieces (shirts, ties, face mic/body pack, etc.) It took a ton of practice to get it down.
One REALLY quick change is in Wicked when Glinda manages to change from one dress to another backstage in less than 10 seconds. That takes skill.

They have a person backstage ready with their next outfit and they have practiced a lot and gotten really fast and most of the time their clothes are easy to slip off as well

They usually are working with the costumes for about two weeks or so before the show and learn to work the change so they aren’t out on stage still trying to get their pants on. And then sometimes they do have to go out without something all the way on, but that’s another story.

if your in a really nice production they might have dressers to help you change costumes. Most of the time though, you’re on your own. lot’s of costumes are made specially for quick changes with snaps or the like. you may wear two costumes at the same time so that you can take off the top one and already be in the other.

It’s called a quick change. Dressers are ready with the costumes in the wings, and if it’s super fast, everything will be quick rigged. Meaning, velcro instead of zippers, and snaps or velcro instead of buttons. It’s usually snaps if it’s a button-down shirt that’s being taken off in the change, because you can just pull the shirt and they’ll all pop open in a second. Then the shirt going on would have velcro behind the buttons, so it just sort of sticks right into place. I do costumes, so I do a lot of this stuff.
