Any tips on how to save on photography and videography?
I don’t want to trust them to a friend or relative and want a professional… just wondering if I’m missing any loopholes on how to save.
Everywhere I look it’s over $3000 for photography and close to that for videography… anyone have any advice on how and where to get a professional for less?

I was lucky enough to find someone who had been an intern and was just starting out on her own. I got a deal at like half the normal rate.
We did not video at all.
I know that numerous people are going to say to just use the disposable cameras, but I’ll tell you honestly, it’s just not the same (usually).
Your photos are going to be what you have to remember the little moments from. In 15 years, they will remind you of things you had forgotten.
I always urge people to spend on the photography rather than fancy flowers, chair covers, and other things that no one will remember.
A beautiful dinner with a nice glass of wine, a beautiful dress, and your closest family and friends are all you need. So, spend the money on the photographer and cut someplace else. : )
You could try asking at a local college/university/tafe. Often students will take great photos for a discounted rate so that they can add them to their folio. Just make sure to request a sample of their work first.

If you are willing to hire someone who is "semi-professional" they are often cheaper, students, hobbyist turned professional ect..
I hired a semi-professional for my sisters wedding, I met him through Model Mayhem (www.modelmayhem.com). He was just starting his business and working for cheap. The photos turned out PERFECT, my sister was SO happy.
Model Mayhem is a networking website for Photographers, Models and Make Up artists. You will need to join the website to look for someone in your area, but it is 100% free.
Also check out Craigslist.com a lot of semi-professionals use that as a source to generate business.
If you MUST have a serious professional, you are going to need to expect to pay a lot.

Skimping on photography is not a good idea. You get what you pay for. My advice to you is to the nix the videography, and then you will have more to spend on the photographer.
I think most people who get videography end up not ever watching it.

we live in a small town, so it was around $2500 here. however, it was worth every single penny. i think you should cut back in other places in order to get the best photographer. your wedding day will fly by, but the pictures will last a lifetime.

people thought we were nuts wanting to spend so much, but everyone is SO glad we did. we just got our pictures back last friday, and they are amazing.
